Secular Perpetual Calendar Desk Clock

Against the passage of time, all mortal clamor fades. Only memory, shaped by craft, defies oblivion and claims eternity.

In the world of horology, there exists a force that transcends mere timekeeping—it carries memories, perpetuates artistry, and narrates the profound, eternal dialogue between humanity and time.

Chieh-Lin Ting, the founder of KUBERNET®, has long dedicated himself to the restoration and study of timepieces. As the vice supervisor of the Macau Horology Association and a research specialist at the Macau Timepiece Museum, he has remained steadfast in his belief: To ensure the craftsmanship of time endures in the modern age.

To mark the 6th anniversary of the Macau Timepiece Museum, Chieh-Lin Ting unveils his very first piece — the Secular Perpetual Calendar Desk Clock.

This is not merely a new product, but rather the revival of an old dream: a heritage piece built upon a vintage movement, infused with the spirit of modern watchmaking.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY:

GEOMETRY AND TEMPORAL LAYERS A VERTICAL SCULPTURE OF TIME

The desk clock's design draws inspiration from Art Deco aesthetics; its geometric language composed exclusively of circles and squares. The aerospace-grade aluminum case, treated with anodization, exhibits the austere texture of concrete gray—symbolizing time's immutable and eternal wall.

The dial and hour markers capture the essence of "layers and continuity." Designed with graduated light reflections, the markers alternate between brushed and polished finishes—seamlessly blending contemporary aesthetics with traditional watchmaking.

The hands continue the geometric language of the case's vertical pillars, with alternating brushed and polished surfaces, creating micro-level dimensionality. The skeletonized, lightweight construction not only enhances energy efficiency but also forms a perfect visual symbiosis with the deep, translucent grey dial, achieving both technical and aesthetic harmony.

This timepiece offers two distinct dial variations: Eternal Day and Eternal Night, each embodying unique aesthetic philosophy.

The Eternal Day version features a sandblasted silver-plated brass dial, evoking the radiant clarity of daylight through its matte metallic finish.

Eternal Night version presents a baked grey glass dial that captures the mysterious depth of lacquered finishes, while allowing users to instantly identify leap years.

* The gray glass dial of the Eternal Night edition allows users to observe whether the current year is a leap year.

Math Meets Meaning

Unlike conventional perpetual calendars, this true perpetual calendar (secular perpetual calendar) automatically accommodates the Gregorian calendar's exceptional rules—including the non-leap year exceptions of 2100, 2200, and 2300. As one of the rare mechanisms capable of navigating the 400-year leap year cycle autonomously, it theoretically requires no manual adjustment throughout its operation.

Chieh-Lin Ting not only reengineered this extraordinarily complex system but also applied three patents to achieve a world-exclusive instantaneous-jumping secular perpetual calendar mechanism: the date, day, month, and moonphase synchronize their transitions within two seconds—as if folding time itself.
